Christmas

Older Poems #15 : The Ghostly Verse Of Christmas Past

Presents

one-sies are quite nice I guess
in their own particular way
but I’d prefer you in your none-sie
when I wake on Christmas day

Humbug

A Christmas carrot
and the goat of christmas past
say baa not humbug

Needles

don’t put your tree up early
as it really is a chore
to pick the needless needles
up from off the floor

Kitty In The Tinsel

kitty in the tinsel
glitter on her paws
waiting underneath the tree
with sharpened santa claws
kitty ringing sleigh bells
all around the house
ready with her mistletoe
for when she sees a mouse

Seasonal Nonsense Rhyme

I tried to write a Christmas card
but found that I could not
as to whom I was to send it
was something I forgot

was it for the doctor?
or maybe for his nurse?
did I get one for the baker?
my memory’s the worst.

did I buy it for the keeper
of the parrots at the zoo
or maybe for a missionary
in far off Kathmandu?

maybe looking at the card
will help me break this curse
then I can take my ballpoint pen
to compose a little verse

at last I had a brainstorm
a bolt out of the blue
my little card’s this poem
with love from me to you.
