The Woodland

I walked along the river’s swell
that of late winter’s rains did tell
storms forgotten by the birds
from the greening woodland heard
the nuthatch piping joyously
in this new dawned sanctuary
a robin’s whistled song to spring
from his proud red breast did ring
and in these orchestrated trees
all thoughts of stormclouds in me eased.
