the guardian

“my angels fly from such base things,
go ask the devil
for he is man’s advocate”
when asked, the devil smiled
and pointed to the man
“therein lies he who did the deed…
for man himself holds the sway
over gods and angels, and yes…

the cherry trees sing again
voices blossoming
come forth in thy sunlight
ascend in that naked gold
which greets each morning’s need
that through the scented days
I have thee to regard anew
until such twilight bleeds
black shadows across my eyes
and I must escape in dreams
of dawns which you precede.

like pages from a calendar torn away
discarded browning yesterdays

with that moment’s regret burning
