Month: March 2021

dare we task mythology
with a conscience fair
can the ink of ages past
bring forth some perfumed air

from times for which we know no light
ages dark save that recited
in the cups of drunken saints
bordered by their lords restraints

dare we give credence to kings
in these fables that we sing
can pages lost to eons burned
show us how our heaven’s earned?

behind my words I held the world
as only I saw it unfurled
no judgements called, nor comments sly
simply as mark to time gone by
nor does this verse seek to advise
more than a will for open eyes
so take no wisdom from these words
the sense of which is nay inferred
‘cept that life’s both joy and pain
and its brief light won’t shine again.
