The Stone Boy

once this garden’s treasure
this child of nature
and bacchanalian spirit
the smile then alive and full
descended back into its stone
his face now weatherworn
beaten by a century of seasons
yet still
he will not be defeated
by ivy’s grip
nor stagnant water’s green
his cup aloft
in petrified hands
he still bids welcome
to those who wander beyond
rusted gates
into this … his forgotten
Neverland.
