today I picked a buttercup
and nailed it to my chin
for scientific reasons
I tucked the petals in
Instead of glowing yellow
like butter on my bread
it shone a different colour
a gushing shade of red.

One Minute Rhyme Mark V
sparkle Sunday
raindrop rich
the rusting
wheels aweigh
yellow blooms
stand on
my sill
they smile
bright sun
shines play.
Notes for an adult nursery rhyme
The sky is red
the shepherd said
his smile one of delight
but all his sheep
didn’t tell Bo Peep
what his plans were for tonight

Philosophy 101
there’s a hole in Greece
where once in peace
lay old Aristotle
they dug it up
found a Starbucks cup
and an old Heinz ketchup bottle
but the sage himself
was not inside
he’d nipped out for a drink
and there he met
poor Socrates
having a little think
upon the theme
of who we are
and the meaning of our life
but up he sprang
when the phone rang
shouting “I’m not here if that’s the wife!”
Notebook
I have a little notebook
in which I don’t make notes
I tried to once but couldn’t
so I draw little boats
and birds, yes I draw lots of birds
and flowers of all sorts
and in between the doodles
I write my silly thoughts
Brand New Day
merry tinkle
periwinkle
blue
are you
tie your lace
smile your face
then you’ll look
brand new.
One Minute Rhyme Mark IV
I’m a little bit miffed
that Taylor Swift
hasn’t wrote a song
bad mouthing me
But it is the case
she don’t know my face
so I’m not gonna
take it personally
5-7-5 (take eighty-four : a walk in the park)
the rhododendrons
like fireworks in fragrant bursts
light my mother’s smile
One Minute Rhyme Mark III
Beardy bunhead
bongo drumming

softly strumming
silent tunes
into the morning
