There’s ghosts
in the boathouse,
no lady in grey
or weeping poet
hiding like shadows
in the dark
but spectres nonetheless
beneath the black velvet water
where the swans
will not venture,
memories
of youth’s indifference
to age and the world
tinged with the cold chill
of remembering
that which is no more.
What an enchanting picture…
