The Ballad of Breezy Pete (draughty first draft)

I rode off out of Donkeytown
on a half lame chestnut mount
a bust mouth organ in my belt
and too many woes to count.
My long johns flappin’ in the wind
that a whistled and a wailed
the prairie wide in front of me
and a posse on my tail.
